Sometimes it's hard to maintain fabulous hair in Washington weather! In our area, it rains more often than the sun comes out, which can cause your hair to become frizzy after you just spent so much time and effort on styling it! Here are some tips to combat frizz in the rain.
Pay attention to the forecast. If it's going to rain, pick a low-key style that goes along with your hair's natural texture. Know your hair type. If you have curly or wavy hair, use a defrizzing gel on wet hair and let it air-dry. Seal in the style with a curling iron. If you have straight hair, control the roots and ends and use a product that contains oil like Aquage Silkening Oil Treatment which repels water.
Use an umbrella to help keep your hair from getting wet. By wearing your hair natural, if it does happen to get wet, it will go back to a similar style.
Nutrition plays a role in the manageability of hair. Getting the right vitamins will make it more healthy and shiny. The vitamins your hair needs to be healthy are: omega 3 evening primrose oil, lecithin, silica vitamin B8 (Biotin), and vitamin B5 (panothenic acid).
Treat your hair right, especially if it tends to be frizzy. Use a low-lathering shampoo and concentrate more on scalp when washing than ends. Wash hair every other day instead of every day. Use a weekly deep conditioning treatment, but only once a week not every day.
To get the most out of your conditioner, squeeze excess water out of hair before conditioning. Rinse with cool water instead of hot to seal the cuticle. When drying hair, squeeze with a towel instead of rubbing, then comb through with a wide toothed comb. Avoid fine-toothed, brushes, and touching hair with hands while it's still wet. Once hair is semi-dry, use an anti-frizz serum from just below roots to tips and smooth down the length of hair.
Try taking one day off a week from styling. No styling other than brushing, no products, no heat. This will give your hair a break to keep it healthy.
